Isle of Man Budget Q&A

Isle of Man Budget Q&A

As a proud Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce member (and Chamber’s communications agency) we were delighted to sponsor today’s webinar with Treasury Minister Alf Cannan MHK.

A big thank you to the Minister, Chamber CEO Rebecca George, and all of the Chamber members who logged in to hear a detailed update about the Budget which was announced yesterday.

The Minister began by giving a summary of the current economic situation, followed by a detailed explanation of Government’s Economic Recovery Plan which includes £100 million earmarked to help businesses most in need due to the Covid crisis, and to kick-start the economy. Of course, there will be challenging times ahead, but the Minister concluded with a confident message that if we can get through next 6 to 9 months successfully, there’s a bright future ahead for our wonderful Island. It was also great to hear him pay tribute to the business community’s remarkable efforts to keep going through the Covid crisis – working with our fantastic clients in all sectors of the economy we’ve seen many great examples of innovation, ingenuity and generosity.

The webinar ended with a Q&A session, brilliantly chaired by Rebecca, which gave Chamber members the chance to question the Minister about a wide range of issues including Government’s procurement policy, air links, and how to attract more young people to come to live and work on the Island.

During the Covid crisis Chamber has proved just how important it is as a strong voice for the business community, and a hub which encourages collaboration within the business community, and between the public and private sector. This latest in a series of webinars offered exclusively to members in recent months once again demonstrated the value of being part of the Island’s biggest business network.
