MMC proud to sponsor The AI Social’s Isle of Man launch

The AI Social is launching in the Isle of Man on Wednesday 16 September, and MMC is proud to be supporting the event as one of its first sponsors.

Created by founder Laura Walker, The AI Social is a women-only community for women of all ages and backgrounds to meet new people, explore AI and learn in a relaxed, welcoming way. The Isle of Man launch is part of The AI Social’s wider growth, with other local chapters already beginning to form in the UK and internationally.

AI is already changing how people work, communicate, create and make decisions. But in conversations around business, technology and innovation, there is still often an imbalance in who is most visible, represented and encouraged to take up space.

That is why a women-only community matters. Women are already leading teams, building businesses, solving problems, creating ideas and using technology every day. The AI Social gives them a dedicated space to explore AI openly, ask questions freely, share experiences and build confidence together as the conversation develops.

Laura started The AI Social after deciding to study artificial intelligence in her 40s. She recognised AI as a major shift for business, society and organisations, and wanted to understand it properly. As she learned more, Laura became increasingly interested in how AI could be used responsibly and meaningfully. She also spoke to many women who were curious about AI, but felt put off by the jargon or pressure to already know where to begin.

Research from Deloitte UK Digital Consumer Trends 2024 shows that only 28% of women have used generative AI. That figure reinforces why access to AI is about more than the technology itself. It is also about confidence, representation and having the right spaces to learn.

Laura’s experience and research shaped the idea behind The AI Social: an informal, community-led space where women can learn together and talk openly about what AI could mean for work, creativity, business and everyday life.

The first Isle of Man event will bring women together for an evening of informal conversation, fresh ideas and a first look at the meetups, workshops and guest speaker sessions still to come. It is designed for women at every stage of their AI journey, from those already using it regularly to those who simply want to understand it better.

This open, social approach is exactly why the community feels so needed right now. AI is not a distant future topic. It is already influencing workplaces, businesses, communication, productivity, data and customer experience. As it continues to develop, more women should feel able to understand it, question it and help shape how it is used.

The Isle of Man is a brilliant place for this kind of community to grow. The Island has women working across business, finance, technology, education, creativity, community organisations and many other sectors. Bringing those women together to explore AI creates an opportunity to share experiences, build connections and make the topic feel more relevant to everyday life.

For MMC, sponsoring The AI Social reflects our belief that new ideas should feel clearer, more accessible and more useful to the people they affect. AI will continue to move quickly, but the most important questions are still human ones:

Who feels confident using it?

Who feels included in the discussion?

Who gets to shape what comes next?

The AI Social has the potential to become a valuable community for the Island, giving women a place to meet, learn, ask questions and explore AI in a way that feels approachable and genuinely useful.

MMC is proud to support The AI Social from the very beginning, and we look forward to seeing this community grow!
